I came across this one image. I don't understand it completely. It caught my attention because of the unusual image of a head and a arm with no body but I don't understand it's purpose. I keep trying to find the meaning of it. Maybe it's just a shocker to get you to look. I don't really know. What do you think and how do you fell about it? Interesting or disturbing?Friday, November 7, 2008

Layout
Good Layout

Bad Layout

The other day when I was waiting in line at the market I browsed through a few magazines. Most of the magazines there were so busy looking. Not all magazines are this way just the selection you would typically find at a stand in the market. Well they gave me the feeling of what should I read first. I have two examples of what I mean by busy looking. The Cosmopolitan and Vibe magazine. Both have a very cluttered and overwhelming layout design. The typography is horrible, there is no sense of order, and there are just to many colors. In the vibe magazine there are very heavy outlines around the letter-forms that are distracting to the message. I also have to examples of what I view as better layout. City and ID magazine have a more clean feel to them. The type is not competing with the image. The City magazine is well organized and the typography works to enhance the image. Id magazine is mostly image with little typography but overall works because it creates a clean and simple layout.
What do you think about the layouts?

What do you Prefer?

Pepsi is supposedly redesigning their logo and bottles. The first image is the original Pepsi and the third is the redesign. They are using the same overall style just a slight modification in positioning of shapes for the logo and a bit of a different design style for the bottle. The hues remain red, blue, and white but indifferent values and intensity. The typography is also a new approach to the redesign. Their theme is to be a Pepsi with a "smile." Although there are only slight modifications in the design it makes the entire image seem like a whole new and different product. I think it is a cool idea doing the Pepsi with a smile. The logo appears more visual interesting and engaging. What do you think?
China takes Action!

I came across this one ad on line. It had a very sexy appeal. Well I started reading about it to find it's purpose and what it was about. The article actually talked about China banning all advertisements that are seductive and tantalizing material viewed on television or radio. The ban that China enacted includes ads for sex-related health supplements, sex toys, breast enhancements, and female underwear. China is very big on moral values and does not wish to be portrayed in a trashy way. They take a strong defense in protecting their cultures identity. China feels that these type of ads are misleading, harm public health, and are corrupting. China strongly strives to find harmony in the visual appeal as well as logic to justify the products true intent. They wish not to be influenced by western culture. This image is just one of the ads that would not be approved by China.

Negativity!

Here are negative posters against Obama. I love looking at the ads and posters for the elections. They are all so funny. I like the simple color usage red, blue and an off white. These posters are very bold. The image and typography defiantly speak. Although I like the style and design technique I would disagree with their message.
