What do you Prefer?

New Pepsi bottles
Pepsi is supposedly redesigning their logo and bottles. The first image is the original Pepsi and the third is the redesign. They are using the same overall style just a slight modification in positioning of shapes for the logo and a bit of a different design style for the bottle. The hues remain red, blue, and white but indifferent values and intensity. The typography is also a new approach to the redesign. Their theme is to be a Pepsi with a "smile." Although there are only slight modifications in the design it makes the entire image seem like a whole new and different product. I think it is a cool idea doing the Pepsi with a smile. The logo appears more visual interesting and engaging. What do you think?

China takes Action!

I came across this one ad on line. It had a very sexy appeal. Well I started reading about it to find it's purpose and what it was about. The article actually talked about China banning all advertisements that are seductive and tantalizing material viewed on television or radio. The ban that China enacted includes ads for sex-related health supplements, sex toys, breast enhancements, and female underwear. China is very big on moral values and does not wish to be portrayed in a trashy way. They take a strong defense in protecting their cultures identity. China feels that these type of ads are misleading, harm public health, and are corrupting. China strongly strives to find harmony in the visual appeal as well as logic to justify the products true intent. They wish not to be influenced by western culture. This image is just one of the ads that would not be approved by China.

Negativity!

Here are negative posters against Obama. I love looking at the ads and posters for the elections. They are all so funny. I like the simple color usage red, blue and an off white. These posters are very bold. The image and typography defiantly speak. Although I like the style and design technique I would disagree with their message.

Spiritual Feel

This image makes Obama appear so God like with the the white fog/airy feel. This ad makes me feel Obama is the perfect candidate. I guess that would mean the image is strong and influential. I like how it says Obama's plan "... the best" You can just fill in the blank, so no matter what a person knows about what he represents they can add that part into the sentence and it gives that extra reassurance. The fill in the blank also emphasizes that Obama has alot to offer that not just one idea could be listed. We can definitely see the hierarchy in this add and the central focus. This is a clear clean add.

Letter-form/Counter-form

This design reminds me of a project I did for Art 313 Lettering and Typography at CSULA. The project was about letter-form/counter-form. We were to use two letter-forms and create different designs based on those two letter-forms. We were able to explore the shape of our letter-forms as well as the black and white shapes it created. This was a fun and interesting project. This project helped me to have a better understanding of small detail and what a great difference a placement of typography can make to the overall design.
The design in this image has alot of interesting interaction between black and white shapes. It is interesting how the black and white shapes interact with the letter-forms. This piece has me continuously looking for new images within the design.
When I was online I came across this piece. I love the overall style. The design contains a great balance and is very clean and pleasing. The design compliments the typography and vice versa. The colors in the design also compliment the typography which add to the piece. My only complaint is in the letter spacing. For some reason the two t's in the word Matt seem too close together. Something about it doesn't look right to me but once again the overall style is pretty good.

When I was doing research on Proposition 8 I came across this poster. It is so boring and traditional. The part I hate most is the fact it does not have a message. It simply states Vote No on Prop 8. This does nothing for me. The poster's message doesn't need to be complicated, but it does need to have something else to it. It's like why would anyone be convinced to vote no on 8 if their is no information why they should. There are so many other propositions and with a poster design like this I would forget about prop 8. Based on the poster it would just make me feel neutral.

Pantene Pro – V logo

I find the Pantene Pro - V logo aesthetically pleasing. I love the integration between the typography and design. The swirled design resembles hair, which is perfect for the company. Pantene Pro - V  is a line of hair products so by the design incorporating that message into the logo makes the design serve a purpose. Although this line of products is cheap an affordable the simple logo design still portrays a sense of elegance.
